As the war between Hamas and Israel rages on, both Israeli and Palestinian victims yearn for peace amidst relentless violence. But be encouraged — this is the Day of Salvation! (2 Corinthians 6:2).
We live in an Age of War, just as Yeshua prophesied…. (Matthew 24:6-13), but we also have more knowledge of the Scriptures than ever before, thanks to archaeology and biblical research.
In my two volumes, I explore how our faith can help us navigate these turbulent times. The first volume, Beauty for Ashes: Understanding the Israel-Hamas War, offers a guide to understanding the Palestinian Resistance and its role in the Hamas-Israel conflict, sharing my journey engaging with Palestinians — both Muslim and Christian.
This work isn’t a history book, but a reflection on the truth of God’s Word in this Age, pointing us to our one true hope—the God of Israel, the Lord of History. He is the source of peace in the face of war.
A second volume will be an anthology of my articles on the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict, to be published in 2025.
At a time when the Palestinians and Israelis are both the focus of hatred, these works point the way forward for the sake of our grandchildren.

This guide to understanding the grotesque Hamas attack on Israel on the Sabbath of Darkness, October 7, 2023, is framed by a biblical, generous theology of history. Judith Mendelsohn Rood shares her experiences as a researcher at the Islamic Court in Jerusalem, a professor of Middle Eastern history teaching world history at an evangelical Christian university, and as a participant in Israeli-Palestinian reconciliation ministries. Her story is interwoven with her perspectives on the imperative of loving one’s enemies during this age of war. Her faith in Yeshua has given her hope and courage during her forty years engaging with the enemy – an enemy she has known as friends. Beauty for Ashes: Understanding the Israel-Hamas War shows us how the Biblical metanarrative guides us to the answers we seek and equips us for the battle ahead.
